The use of crystal grids dates back to ancient civilisations, such as the Egyptians and the Atlanteans, who recognised the energetic properties of crystals and the power created when placing them in sacred geometric patterns. The combination of crystals in a grid formation is believed to enhance the crystals individual properties and create a unified energy field for specific purposes, such as healing, protection, manifestation or spiritual growth.

I use crystal grids in a variety of ways, but most commonly to create helpful energy in a room or space. They can also be used in crystal healing, whereby grids are placed on the actual body of yourself or a client, which is a wonderful addition to any energy healing practice. When I create a crystal grid I have a specific intention in mind, most often it is to create peace, joy and harmony, all the good stuff! I frequently create protection grids and have some permanently set up in the entrance way of my home, alongside some others which are designed to inspire clarity, health, happiness, love and gentility. I love the idea that as my family and I, or our house guests, enter our home, they are stepping into this balmy energy, which is a bit like getting a gentle shower of all of those good vibes. Lovely! Crystal grids can be placed anywhere, either on a flat surface or glued to a frame if that is your preference. All of my grids are supplied as loose stones so that you can mix and match them later to create your own grids. Each of my designs is supplied with a PDF illustration of how the grid should look, so that you can recreate it by replacing the stones in the same way as the image, on a flat surface in the room of your choosing. Many of my grids are slightly too big to place on a body. Please check the listing for measurements if you intend to use them for ‘on person’ healing.

My cats love crystal grids, they like sitting on them… they like messing ‘em up with their little paws, and sometimes my Derek will toss them off the table if he is feeling especially mischievous. If you too have a curious, crystal-loving Kitty, and this is something you want to avoid, I encourage you to place a tiny bit of blue tack on the underside to help it stick to the surface.

Whilst I have undertaken a variety of courses in Crystal healing, I have a terrible memory for recalling the individual properties of many crystals and I prefer to work intuitively when creating a grid. That is to say, you do not need to know anything about the properties of crystals at all to create beautiful healing grids for yourself. I strongly believe that your higher self knows how to inspire your inner compass and guide you towards the combination of crystals that your unique energy bodies and field need in the moment. Each of my grids was created in exactly this way and I include a Free Guided Meditation (link) that you can use to help you tune into your own wisdom and find out which crystals are best for you at this time. I am fairly eclectic in my crystal gridding practices and I want to reassure you that there is no right or wrong way to make them and no special training required, in either crystals or grids. I encourage you to be playful, creative and curious when combining stones, there is no wrong combination, pattern or design, what matters more is that it FEELS good to YOU. In principle it is as simple as combining a central crystal with a number of crystals pointing outwards from it - the theory being that the energy of the central crystal is amplified and directed out into the space around it, or, if you are charging the central crystal, channelling the energy inwards, be that to energise and heal a room/space, or a body. In order that the energy can be dispersed and amplified in this manner, it is important to use some clear quartz or at least some quartz based stones, preferably points, though tumblestones may be more appropriate in some cases. Clear quartz is commonly referred to as a “Master Stone” - Scientifically speaking it is piezoelectric - these properties make it the perfect stone with which to generate stable and precise frequencies. This is why quartz is used in pretty much every piece of technology you use. Quartz crystal oscillators are a key component in time keeping devices. They are also used in televisions and display screens (LCD), in addition to GPS, Radio Frequency Filters, Computer components such as microprocessors and memory chips. Quartz demonstrates the ability to store, amplify and process energy in a very clear and balanced way. All of my grids include quartz, usually clear points - so that they store, process and direct the energy of the grid. I encourage you to collect a variety of quartz shapes and sizes to use, as each type moves energy in different ways. Clear Quartz Points - Available as chunky lemurian points or wands, tiny needle quartz or rough quartz points. Naturally pointed or cut and polished. Single points direct the energy in the direction that the point faces. Double Terminated Quartz Points (DT’s) - Double terminated points have a point on each end, available rough (quite rare) or cut and polished quartz. They are excellent for both sending and receiving energies at the same time, particularly useful if you want the grid to absorb energy from outside of itself too. Quartz Tumbles - Tumble stones and chips are polished smooth and its hard edges are gently rounded They move energy gently in all directions, particularly useful if you want to use grids on a body. Aura Coated Quartz - Aura quartz is made through a process called vacuum deposition. In this process, the quartz crystal is placed in a vacuum chamber and heated to a high temperature. A vaporised metal, such as titanium, gold, copper, silver or niobium, is then introduced into the chamber and deposited onto the surface of the crystal. The metal bonds to the crystal and creates an iridescent metallic sheen. The colour of the aura quartz depends on the type of metal that is used. Gold aura quartz is created using gold, silver aura quartz is created using silver, rainbow aura quartz is created using a combination of titanium and niobium, and opal aura quartz is created using niobium. Since only electricity is used to deposit the metal layers and create these colours, very little heat is involved and the integrity of the crystal is maintained. The crystal does not become brittle or prone to breakage as with other treatments. Aura Coated Quartz further amplifies the power of crystals owing to the inclusion of a metal. Even people who don’t feel the energy of crystals report tingling sensations when handling Aura Quartz. Any type of Quartz is a great energy conductor for your grid. The clearer the quartz the clearer the energy. Some different varieties of quartz introduce their own unique properties, use whatever feels right to you. I don’t just use crystals in my grids. I love to include seasonal items that I have foraged or trinkets that feel good to include. This might be acorns, leaves, flowers or even sticks and mushrooms. Feathers also lend themselves well to crystal grids because of their shape and the symmetry they offer. Look for items that match your intentions, for example the Oak Tree is a symbol of strength to me, so an acorn would reinforce the energy of strength. Don’t worry about the traditional meanings of symbols, it is far more important to assign meanings that make sense to you - this is your own unique symbology lexicon, the universe is always communicating with you in a way that YOU understand, it doesn’t want to force you on a deep dive into google searches… What does a bee mean to you? What about a Bluebird or a Hawk? Take some time to relax and go inwards, into your heart, when you find an item that you feel inspired to use in a grid. What does it mean to YOU? I also like to use carefully collected dead insects in my grids too, there is a very real Bee graveyard amongst my crystal collection. When I find dead insects in my home and they are well preserved I always tuck them away for use in my grids - insects are incredibly wise, they operate from the perspective of hive mind and consciousness, something us humans forgot to do (but we are re-learning right? Check out my Collective Empowerment Group Meditations out HERE, they are FREE and designed to help us unite our hearts to bring in a new and more loving Earth for all) and each has its own unique energy and gifts to share. Whatever you choose for your grid, begin with an intention in mind. If you can’t think of anything specific, just intend to have fun and create a grid that is just right for you NOW.

Select Crystals: Choose crystals that align with your intention. Consider their properties and energies to ensure they support your desired outcome. You can select a centrepiece crystal and several supporting crystals. Choose a Grid Pattern: Select a geometric pattern or sacred geometry shape for your grid. Some popular choices include a flower of life, sacred spiral, hexagon, or a custom design that resonates with you. Cleanse and Charge Your Crystals: Before starting, cleanse and charge your crystals to remove any negative or stagnant energies. You can use methods like smudging, running water (not all crystals can get wet though!), sunlight, moonlight, sound, or Reiki. Prepare the Space: Find a quiet and clean space where you can arrange your crystal grid. Clear the area of any distractions or clutter and create a peaceful environment. Place the Centrepiece Crystal: Begin by placing your centrepiece crystal in the centre of the grid. This crystal should represent your intention and hold the focus of the grid. Arrange the Supporting Crystals: Position the supporting crystals around the centrepiece in a symmetrical or intuitive manner. Trust your intuition and follow any patterns that emerge. Activate the Grid: Use a crystal wand or your finger to energetically connect the crystals in your grid. Start from the centrepiece and move outwards, creating a continuous energy flow between the crystals. You can visualise or state your intention as you connect the crystals. Meditate and Energise: Once the grid is activated, spend some time meditating near the grid. You can visualise the energy flowing through the crystals, feel their vibrations, and connect with the intention you set. Maintain and Recharge: Regularly cleanse and recharge your crystal grid to keep the energy flowing optimally. You can do this by cleansing the crystals, reactivating the grid, and setting a fresh intention whenever needed. Remember, crystal grids are highly personal, and there are no rigid rules. Feel free to experiment with different crystals, patterns, and intentions based on your intuition and preferences. Trust your instincts and let your connection with the crystals guide you in creating and working with your crystal grid.
